Whistlepig 15 Year Rye is Here
What differentiates Whistlepig 15 Year Rye from all the other aged rye whiskeys? I call it the "terroir" of influence from the barrels that the whiskey was aged in. Whistlepig grows trees that get turned into their barrels for which this liquid gold comes from. In other words, the oak for the barrels are from the Vermont farm that houses the Whistlepig distillery.
Owing to the harsh winter and short summer growing season, the Vermont oak has tight grain patterns, which allow the distiller to char the barrel more than barrels made from oak that has fatter grains. All this means for you is that you will get more of harmonious blend of toasted wood in liquid that has mellowed out perfectly over 15 years.
